Founded in January 2013 by writer and illustrator Emily McDowell, we make products that speak to the human condition with honesty, humor, and heart. Our cards are designed for the relationships we really have, and our mission is to help people connect when they’re not sure what to say. We believe humanity is an endless source of inspiration, and we find it creepily satisfying whenever a customer asks if we've been reading their diary, because it means we're doing something right. In January of 2018, we joined forces with fellow Southern California-based, women-owned company Knock Knock to become the Who’s There Group: two kick-ass brands under the same roof, united by one very high-maintenance espresso machine. Shop both brands on Faire now! In January of 2019, we officially changed our name from Emily McDowell Studio to Emily McDowell & Friends, to reflect our expansion into partnerships with other artists and writers.
We provide a variety of unique, handmade gifts made by women, for all ages from infants to adults. Many of our products support charities and non-profits, with portions of proceeds going toward organizations and charities for marginalized voices and women advocacy groups.
Maari
store owner
The store is named Priscilla’s after Priscilla Murphy, the first realtor on Sanibel Island. She traveled here from Michigan in the 1940s and opened up the first real estate office on the island in the early 1950s.
My name is Maari and I live in Sanibel with my husband, Chas, and our two young children. We relocated here from Minnesota during the 2020 COVID pandemic. After visiting here for my whole life, we decided to take a leap of faith and start a new adventure on the island of Sanibel. With a background in advertising/marketing, journalism and interior design and charity work in women advocacy groups, I feel that I have found my calling by opening Priscilla's of Sanibel. I am an old soul, inspired by the many women before us, and with us, who have worked so hard so that we can all enjoy this beautiful place on Earth. I am honored and humbled to be part of this wonderful community and I look forward to meeting you soon and hearing your own story.
